Police in Kawempe have arrested Anthony Katongole, popularly known as Chicken Chicken, in connection with the alleged malicious damage of a motor vehicle following the circulation of a viral video on social media.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the suspect was taken into custody after footage emerged allegedly showing him damaging a Toyota Mark X, registration number UBM 696S, belonging to Sali Sharif, also known as Shawa Shawa.

In a statement issued, police said the arrest followed investigations prompted by a video widely shared on social media platforms. The footage allegedly captures Katongole vandalising the vehicle.

Police said the incident is being investigated as a case of malicious damage to property under Ugandan law.

The suspect has been identified as Anthony Katongole, commonly known as “Chicken Chicken.”

The complainant is Sali Sharif, also known as “Shawa Shawa,” who owns the damaged Toyota Mark X.

The case is being handled by officers attached to Kawempe Police Division.

Speaking on behalf of the force, police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said officers acted after the video surfaced online and investigations pointed to the suspect.

Police confirmed that Katongole remains in custody as inquiries into the matter continue.

The arrest highlights the increasing role of digital evidence in criminal investigations, with police relying on videos and other content shared online to identify suspects and support ongoing inquiries.

Authorities have repeatedly urged the public to avoid acts of vandalism and to resolve disputes through lawful means rather than taking matters into their own hands.

Police say investigations are ongoing and that the suspect is expected to be processed in accordance with the law. Prosecutors will determine whether sufficient evidence exists to formally charge him in court.
