Two Next Media Staff Killed in Entebbe Road Crash
Two employees of Next Media Services have died in a fatal road crash along Entebbe Road while a third colleague was injured and admitted to hospital.
The crash occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Namulanda near the Stabex area along Entebbe Road according to the Uganda Police Force.
The deceased have been identified as Badru Kasirye a producer and Isaac Ndamagye a content creator. Their colleague, Brian Ssemanda popularly known as Brian “Makona,” survived the crash but sustained serious injuries.
Police said the collision involved a Toyota Allex registration UA 779DE and a Toyota Hilux registration UAS 976W.
According to preliminary findings by traffic police, Toyota Hilux was travelling from Entebbe towards Kampala when its driver allegedly lost control while approaching the Stabex area at Namulanda.
The vehicle reportedly drifted into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the oncoming Toyota Allex.
The impact killed Kasirye and Ndamagye at the scene while Ssemanda was injured and taken to hospital for medical attention.
Superintendent Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Traffic and Safety Directorate said investigators would provide further information once their inquiries are completed.
Next Media Services confirmed that Ssemanda is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Kisubi Hospital.
The media company said it remains in direct contact with the hospital and will provide updates on his condition as they become available.
Next Media also appealed to the public to respect the privacy of the families of the deceased and Ssemanda as they deal with the aftermath of the crash.
Ssemanda is known for his work as an entertainment journalist and presenter with Sanyuka TV.
The deaths have triggered an outpouring of grief from journalists, media organisations and members of the public across Uganda.
Kasirye and Ndamagye were remembered by colleagues as valued members of the Next Media team while messages of support have also been directed towards Ssemanda and his family as he continues treatment.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by people travelling on Uganda’s roads during the night and the broader challenge of road safety in the country.
Entebbe Road tragedy comes only days after another deadly crash on the Kampala-Masaka Highway.
On August 3, a crash at Lwera Swamp in Kalungu District claimed 14 lives and left several others injured, according to reports.
Uganda continues to record thousands of road crashes annually. Official figures cited in recent reporting indicate that 25,107 road crashes were recorded in 2024, including 4,434 fatal crashes.
Speeding, careless overtaking, poor vehicle maintenance and road conditions have repeatedly been identified among the factors associated with serious crashes on Ugandan roads.
However, police have not attributed the Namulanda crash to any particular cause beyond the preliminary account that the Hilux allegedly lost control.
