Kabanda Fired From PLUKabanda Fired From PLU

KAMPALA, Uganda

Hon. David Kabanda has been removed from his position as Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) following a leadership reshuffle announced by PLU chairman and Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In a series of statements posted on X (formerly Twitter), Muhoozi named Hon. Fadil Twaha as the organization’s new Secretary General, effectively ending Kabanda’s three-year tenure in one of PLU’s most influential positions.

“The new General Secretary of PLU is Hon. Fadil Twaha. I will work closely with him to achieve our objectives,” Muhoozi said.

Kabanda has served as Secretary General since the formation of PLU and played a key role in organizing the group’s activities and expansion across the country.

While announcing the change, Muhoozi thanked Kabanda for his service, describing his contribution as instrumental in building the organization.

“I thank Hon. Kabanda for his three years of excellent service. He set the standard high for the position,” Muhoozi stated.

Despite the praise, the announcement confirms that Kabanda will no longer serve as the group’s chief administrative officer.

Muhoozi directed PLU National Vice Chairperson Michael Nuwagira to organize a handover and takeover ceremony between Kabanda and his successor as soon as possible.

He further instructed all PLU ministers and Members of Parliament affiliated with the organization to attend the event.

Kabanda’s exit comes as part of a broader restructuring within PLU.

Muhoozi announced that a new Central Committee will be appointed in the coming months, saying the organization needs fresh leadership to tackle new challenges.

However, he confirmed that Michael Nuwagira, Edwin Karugire, Michael Mawanda, and Andrew Mwenda will retain their positions on the committee.

The removal of Kabanda from the Secretary General position marks one of the most significant leadership changes within PLU since its formation.
