Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said Uganda remains peaceful, secure and on a path of development, while warning that the country continues to face threats from what he described as fifth column elements working on behalf of foreign interests.

Speaking during UPDF celebrations, Gen. Muhoozi reassured Ugandans about the country’s security situation but said authorities remain vigilant against individuals allegedly seeking to undermine national sovereignty and development.

“I wish to reassure and inform the country that Uganda is peaceful, secure, and thriving; however, what is also true is that we have to deal with the fifth column of neocolonialist sympathizers and agents of foreign interests who intend on sabotaging our national independence and development,” he said.

The Chief of Defence Forces also stressed that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) would not tolerate foreign interference in the country’s affairs.

“We can’t and shall not tolerate agents of foreign interests who secretly work to undermine the country’s progress.”

He added:

“We will never allow agents of foreign interest to demoralize and demobilize the patriotic and nationalistic spirit of Ugandans.”

Gen. Muhoozi said the UPDF remains committed to defending Uganda’s sovereignty, preserving peace and ensuring that external actors do not interfere with the country’s independence or development agenda.

The remarks come amid continued government assertions that foreign influence poses a threat to Uganda’s national security, although Gen. Muhoozi did not identify any specific individuals, organizations or countries in his address.
