Train Up a Child (TUC) Schools held an open campaign session under the theme “TUC Decides 2026” where pupils presented manifestos for various leadership positions, drawing attention from teachers, parents, and fellow learners.
The exercise, conducted within the school environment, featured young learners presenting campaign promises for positions such as Prime Minister, Speaker, Minister for Health, and Minister for Information.
The school campaigns were conducted in an open setting where pupils addressed their peers and teachers, outlining what they would do if elected into leadership positions.
Teachers described the activity as part of a learning process designed to help children develop confidence, communication skills, and early leadership understanding in a structured environment.
In the Prime Minister race, Leighton Tugume promised to lead with integrity and inclusivity, saying leadership should focus on fairness and unity among learners.
For the position of Speaker, Lisa Magezi pledged to be a “voice of the voiceless,” promising to represent all pupils equally in decision-making processes.
In the Minister for Health contest, Lower Skyleer Malaika Kirumira (Primary 2) captured attention after promising voters sanitizers and sweets, a pledge that drew laughter and excitement from fellow pupils.
Meanwhile, Mbaine Laure, who contested for Minister for Information, promised to improve the school’s image and branding, saying communication and reputation are important for the school community.
Teachers said the exercise is meant to help pupils understand leadership roles at an early age while encouraging creativity and expression.
They noted that although the promises are simple and child-like, the activity helps learners understand responsibility, teamwork, and public speaking.
Parents and teachers who attended the event observed that the campaigns reflect how children interpret leadership in their own way, blending imagination with lessons from school life.
